Dr. Paike Jayadeva Bhat assumed charge as Director on 19 September 2026. Dr. Bhat is a former Professor in the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay). He served at IIT Bombay for over 28 years until his superannuation in June 2021. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, in 1985, and subsequently worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Hershey Medical Center, Penn State University, from 1986 to 1993.
His research has been in the areas of molecular genetics, gene regulation, and systems biology, with a focus on genetic regulatory mechanisms in yeast.
