PhD awards: Thirty One research scholars have received their PhD degrees so far till date (2024) from Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal, India in the area of Materials Science & Catalysis, Biological Sciences and Theoretical Sciences. During the first award year, 9 PhDs from PPISR received Certificate of Recognition from Bharat Ratna Prof C. N. R. Rao during Founder’s Day Programme in 2015.

 

Publications: Over 400 research articles have been published in reputed high impact international journals by the three divisions till date. Ten book chapters and few review papers have also been published during this time.

 

Patents: PPISR catalysis researchers are co-inventors in the three US patents (granted) filed by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. in a collaborative project.

 

Awards to faculty: The MSCD faculty havereceived Award for Research Publications (ARP) for the year 2016-17 and 2018-2019 for past 3 years best publications by VGST, Dept. of IT, BT and S&T, Govt of Karnataka. Also, the faculty have received the Young Scientist project grants from VGST, GOK and DST, GOI.

 

Nature index: PPISR chemistry research adjudged among the top 60 institutes in India per a recent Nature Index list.

 

Best paper presentation Awards: The research scholars won several best presentation awards at national/international conferences from all the three divisions and the scientific community appreciated the research carried out at PPISR.

 

Senior Research Fellowship awards: 8 students have received Senior Research Fellowship from CSIR, Govt. of India so far from 2012-2020 rewarded for their initial research work and publications at PPISR.

 

Contribution to protein data bank: PPISR Structural Biology Group elucidated > 25 new protein structures and deposited in the WorldWide Protein Data Bank (wwPDB). These proteins are crystallized at PPISR lab and structures are solved by the researchers.

 

Contribution to Genbank: PPISR Microbiology group identified several endophytic fungi by molecular sequencing of internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region and deposited in GenBank in the name of PPISR.

 

Co-authorship with Nobel Laureate: Our faculty has co-authored publications with Prof. James Allison, Nobel Laureate in Physiology and Medicine 2018.

 

Visiting faculty at other institutes: PPISR faculty members have been honoured as visiting faculty by other reputed institutes like Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, USA; National Centre for Theoretical Science (NCTS, Taiwan); Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany; Raman Research Institute (RRI), Bengaluru etc.

 

Extensive extramural research funding: While Admar Mutt Education Foundation (AMEF) finances our basic research activity, our faculty members received external funding through sponsored projects from government agencies like  DST (Dept. of Science and Technology), BRNS (Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences), DBT (Dept. of Biotechnology), UGC–DAE (University Grants Commission – Dept of Atomic Energy), DRDO (ER & IPR), VGST (Vision Group on Science & Technology, Govt. of Karnataka). There are also several industry projects executed successfully by PPISR researchers sponsored by GTC Technology Inc (USA), PW Technology Inc. USA, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Shell Technology Centre, Deepak Novochem Technologies Ltd., Deepak Nitrite Ltd, Thermax Industries, Pune and Bristol Myers Sqibb, USA. Overall, 23 Govt sponsored projects and 16 projects sponsored by industries have been executed at PPISR in all the three divisions till May 2020. Currently, several Govt and industry sponsored projects are being executed at PPISR.

 

Timely completion and effective advancement of sponsored projects: All industrial projects sponsored by GTC Technology, USA, HPCL R&D Centre, PW Technology Inc, USA, DNTL have been completed in time and successfully continued to the next phase after achievement of research goals in the previous phase. 

 

Forging links and collaborative networks: Our flexible work structure allows us to form mutually beneficial research collaborations with researchers and facilities from larger institutions. The institute has MOU with many institutes for collaborative research like Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago, IIT-Madras, Chennai, Indo-Korea Science and Technology Center (IKST), Bengaluru, Central University, Gulbarga,SIT, Tumkur and MSRIT, Bengaluru.  The research groups of PPISR have academic research collaborations with many national institutes like IISc, Bengaluru, JNCASR, Bengaluru, RRI, Bengaluru, NIT Surathkal, MIT Manipal, IIT Ropar, IIT Jodhpur (Rajasthan),IIT-Kharagpur,  Bose Institute, Kolkata, JIIT, Noida, VBU, Hazaribag and CSIR-NCL Pune.

 

The faculties of PPISR also have international collaborations with reputed institutes like Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, USA and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany, University of Moncton, Canada, ORNL, USA. And University of New Castle, Australia.

 

Invited talks by faculty members at prestigious national/ international conferences: Such as 1) The 3rd International Conference on Emerging Advanced Nanomaterials 2018 (ICEAN-2018)” held in the Newcastle Exhibition and Convention Center, Newcastle, Australia; 2) International Conference on World biodiesel Congress& Expo, San Antonio, USA 2016; 3) 5th Indo-French symposium at CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune 2019;4) International conference on “Carbon Capture and Its Utilization” at the CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune conducted in association with Royal Society of Chemistry 2018; 5) Asia-Pacific Congress on Catalysis (APCAT – 7) organized by Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) in Mumbai, 2017; 6) 23rd National symposium on Catalysis (CATSYMP-23) organized by Catalysis Society of India in Bengaluru, 2018; 7) National Conference on Frontiers of Catalysis Science & Technology and its applications held at St Joseph’s College, Bengaluru 2020; 8) International conference on Green Chemistry and Nanotechnology to be held at St. Aloysius College Mangalore, 2017, 9) National seminars/conferences by Indian Crystallographic Association held at various places every year.

 

International travels by faculty members and students: Both faculty members and students of PPISR have travelled abroad and visited reputed universities, institutes and industries for research work, collaborations, scientific review meetings or invited talks.To name a few among the visited institutes: Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, USA; National Centre for Theoretical Science (NCTS) Taiwan; PETRA, DESY, Hamburg Germany; Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (ANSTO), Australia; University of New Castle, Australia (ICEAN conference); Elettra Sincrotrone Facility, Trieste, Italy; GTC, Shenyang China; GTC, Houston, USA; San Antonio, USA (Biodiesel Conference); Hanoi, Vietnam AsCA (Asian Crystallography Association conference); National Institute of Materials Physics in Magurele/Bucharest, Romania; 12th Conference of AsCA in Hong Kong.

 

Organizers of National Conferences and workshops: PPISR has organized several conferences and workshop including 23rd National symposium on Catalysis (CATSYMP-23) under the aegis of Catalysis Society of India in January 2018; Thematic Workshop on Diffraction Methods for Structural Analysis in Materials Science sponsored by UGC-DAE in July 2016; A Dialogue Across Traditions: Modern Science And Ancient Insights On Reality sponsored by ICPR (Indian Council for Philosophical Research), New Delhi, and AMEF, Bengaluru in October 2016; Workshop on Instrumental Methods of Chemical Analysis in February 2017.

 

Workshops for young researchers and college lecturers: Over the years, PPISR has organized a number of workshops aimed at disseminating research knowledge to teachers, lecturers and students. Research Orientation Workshops, Summer and winter schools for high school and undergraduate students, FDP programmes for researchers and faculty of colleges have been conducted since 2011.

 

Meetings for researchers and scientists: Over the years, individual scientists in PPISR have organized in their area of interest, a number of meetings aimed at bringing together scientists for sharing recent research advances and for scientific interaction across specialist disciplines.

 

Resource Persons: Faculties of PPISR were invited as resource persons for FDP, Refresher, TEQIP, National Training Course programmes for degree and engineering colleges across India.
