Director’s Message

Thank you for visiting the website of Poornaprajna Institute of Scientific Research (PPISR).

PPISR was established by H. H. Sri Vibudhesha Teertha Swamiji with the noble vision of nurturing and promoting original, curiosity-driven fundamental research in both basic and applied sciences. This vision was enthusiastically advanced by H. H. Vishwapriya Teertha Swamiji, and is now being actively carried forward by our current President and Chairman, H. H. Sri Eeshapriya Theertha Swamiji, who continues to guide the Institute in fulfilling the dreams of his Guruji.

Having had the privilege of being associated with PPISR since its inception, I have closely witnessed the remarkable progress made by the Institute over the years. In 2025, I was honored to take over as the Director of this esteemed institution, and I remain deeply committed to continuing the legacy of excellence established by my predecessors.

Over the years, PPISR has grown into a dynamic hub of innovative science and applied research. It has steadily carved out a name for itself on both national and international platforms through its commitment to unique and high-impact research. The Institute focuses on contemporary frontier areas such as Materials Science and Catalysis, Biological Sciences, and Theoretical Sciences.

Our emphasis on meaningful academia-industry collaboration has led to the design and development of novel multifunctional materials with wide-ranging applications in catalysis, nanotechnology, and more. Several research projects have been successfully initiated with support from industrial partners like Sulzer-GTC Technology Inc, USA; GTC Vorro Environmental Services, LLC, USA; Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL); Deepak Novochem Technologies Ltd, Pune; Bristol Myers Squibb, USA; Bhat BioTec India Pvt Ltd, Bangalore; Sravathi Advanced Process Technologies, Bengaluru; SABIC Agri-Nutrients Company; SABIC Research and Technology Pvt Ltd; as well as key Government agencies such as VGST, DST, DRDO, and others. PPISR also maintains active collaborations with many reputed institutions in India and abroad.

To date, 31 doctoral students have received their PhDs from MAHE, Manipal, and nearly 18 doctoral candidates, along with several project assistants, are currently engaged in research activities on various sponsored projects. The Institute has been granted 2 US patents and 3 Indian patents, and has filed 3 more Indian patents based on collaborative work with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Bengaluru.

PPISR has proudly surpassed 400 publications in peer-reviewed, high-impact international journals. It was a moment of great pride when the Nature Index global database ranked PPISR among the top 60 institutions in India for chemistry publications in 2020. This recognition underscores the world-class quality of research being conducted at PPISR, achieved despite having minimal faculty and infrastructure when compared to many centrally funded institutes.

We have also undertaken multiple industry-sponsored projects, including those from Sulzer-GTC Technology Inc, USA; Shell India Pvt Ltd; HPCL R&D; and various government-sponsored initiatives through DBT, DST, VGST, BRNS, and DRDO. Our collaborative efforts with both Indian and international institutions continue to expand and thrive.

Science outreach has been an integral part of our mission. With the initiative “Today’s Science for Tomorrow’s Scientists,” we have actively engaged with students of Poornaprajna School in Bengaluru to foster interest in basic science among young minds. The Institute also supports MSc and MTech students by providing them with opportunities to carry out meaningful research projects. Our researchers have presented their work at various national and international conferences and have received several best presentation awards. Distinguished scientists and professors from across the globe have visited PPISR and delivered lectures, further enriching our academic environment.

Our infrastructure continues to evolve in support of our expanding scientific activities. All of these achievements have been made possible through the unwavering blessings of Their Holinesses Sri Vishwapriya Theertha Swamiji and Sri Eeshapriya Theertha Swamiji, the steadfast support from the Admar Mutt Education Foundation and its trustees, and the dedicated efforts of our faculty, students, and staff.

We look forward to reaching new milestones in our pursuit of scientific excellence.
