Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrosco py (FTIR)
The Bruker-alpha FTIR spectrophotometer is a compact instrument and measures the infrared spectrum, which represents the molecular absorption and transmission of a sample.

Ultra Violet–Visible Spectroscopy (UV-VIS)
The UV-Visible spectrophotometer from Perkin Elemer can be routinely used in analytical chemistry for the quantitative determination of different analytes such as transition metal ions, highly conjugated organic compounds, and biological macromolecules.
Specifications:
  • deuterium lamp source for UV region and tungsten halogen lamp for Visible region
  • Both solid and liquid samples can be analyzed by UV-Vis
  • Solid samples in the form of thin films can be analyzed
  • Absorbance, Transmittance, Diffused Reflectance for liquids and Absorbance, Transmittance for solids can be measured

Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy
This instrument from Perkin-Elmer is used for the qualitative and quantitative determination of chemical elements employing the absorption of optical radiation (light) by free atoms in the gaseous state. In analytical chemistry the technique is used for determining the concentration of a particular element (the analyte) in a sample to be analyzed.
Specifications:
  • Elements analysed in our facility are Iron, Copper, Silicon, Aluminium, Zinc, Calcium, Sodium, Phosphorous and Magnesium.
  • Sample in the form of liquids are analysed in this instrument.
  • Solid samples are digested using acids (hydrochloric, nitric, sulphuric etc) and made up to required volume using distilled water.

NH-2L Kneader
This machine is procured from China. The Z-blade twin screw mixer particularly adapted to compounds of high viscosity, such as wet mixtures of alumina, zeolites, clays, silica, titanium dioxide. The equipment operates in batches with a capacity of 0.5 Kg. Mixing of the oxide material, water and binder is obtained by continuous action of two very robust Z-blades rotating in reverse direction one from the other. During mixing stage, rotation of the twin screw is forcing back the product inside the bowl and takes large part in homogenizing the different products yielding dough ready for extrusion.

F-26 Twin Screw Banded Extruder
This machine is procured from China. It’s a small twin screw extrusion molding equipment, which is mainly used for small-scale banded extruding of catalyst, adsorbent and other powders with a production capacity of 1-7Kg/h of extrudates in different shapes.

ZQJ-II Grain Crushing Strength Tester
The GCS Tester consists of an automatic press controlled electronically which allows determination of resistance to crushing of catalyst grains during handling and usage. The grain of catalyst is placed on the anvil of an appropriate transducer and a mobile piston, operated by a stepping motor, crushes the grain. An electronic device measures the peak value when the grain breaks and keeps it displayed on a digital display.

DGM-II Abrasion Tester
This equipment is used to determine the attrition characteristics of a solid catalyst resulting from inter-particle friction or wall effect when the catalyst is handled. This equipment is dedicated to the determination of attrition and abrasion resistance of catalyst particles. It complies with ASTM D-4058-96. It consists of a stainless steel drum of normalized dimensions, fitted with an internal lateral baffle and a lid. The drum can be set in 3 different positions: upper for loading, lower for unloading and horizontal for running. The drum is rotated by a geared motor controlled by a timer. A sample of granular catalyst (or catalyst carrier, or adsorbent) is loaded in a cylindrical drum which is rotated around its axis for 30 min at a rotating speed of 60 +/- 5 rpm. The fines produced by attrition and abrasion during the process are recovered by sieving the content of the drum. The weighing of the residue and of the initial sample allows calculating the loss on attrition.

Temperature Programmed Desorption Analyzer
It’s a Chem Labs, Bangalore instrument. For characterization of catalyst material, it is needed to examine the adsorption state by detecting components to be desorbed when a reaction gas is circulated through a sample with heat applied. The analysis output allows the elucidation of microscopic information-such as acidity and the nature of the active sites of the catalyst sample.

Fluorescence Spectrophotometer
The Varian Cary Eclipse Fluorescence Spectrophotometer is a compact instrument and measures the fluorescence, phosphorescence, chemi/bio-luminescence, and time resolved phosphorescence.
Specifications:
  • Spectral range UV-Vis and NIR.
  • Xenon flash lamp technology with room light immunity and high sensitivity.
  • Both solid and liquid samples can be analyzed.
