Philosophy Greets Physics: 5th Nalanda Philosophy-Science Dialog

Jointly organized by Nava Nalanda Mahavihara, Nalanda; Sambhasha, Kolkata; and
Poornaprajna Institute of Scientific Research (PPISR), Bengaluru.

During 22--25, October 2009 a national meeting was jointly organized by Nava Nalanda Mahavihara (NNM, a deemed University, located a few kms away from the ruins of ancient Nalanda Mahavihara), PPISR, Banglore and Sambhasha, Kolkata with the aim of bringing together scientists and philosophers in order to help bridge their respective fields. Please find here the circular for the meeting.

The present meeting is part of an ongoing Dialog that has been set up between physicists and philosophers (mainly represented so far by scholars drawn from Madhyamik Buddhism), taking place in Nalanda during the last five years. A new element this year is the inclusion of an astronomy chapter in commemoration of the ancient Nalanda School of Astronomy.

This year also active scientists interested in philosophical issues from around India as well as Buddhist scholars from India and possibly elsewhere are expected to take part in this Dialog. The Dialog sessions will be held in Mahavihara campus as well as in some famous cites in adjacent Rajgriha where Buddha preached many of his celebrated verses. Participants will be housed at Mahavihara university.

The list of confirmed speakers can be found here.

Information concerning the previous Dialogs held in 2005, can be found here, and that held in 2006 here. A few photos from the previous meeting can be found here:
